Grateful and Giving: November 17
I’ve been trying to improve my ‘wellness’ practice over the past few years, and one strategy has been trying to be less focused on stresses, responsibilities, and problems (the ‘work’ of life) and more focused on gratitude, for the hundred blessings I might be grateful for at any given time.
As we near Thanksgiving I am reminded that one of the greatest blessings in my life and my family’s is Burgundy! As Head of School, I know as well as anyone that we’re not perfect, if perfect exists in schools; but I believe in what we are doing, I believe in our heritage and in our people and in our future, and, most of all, I am 100% certain of the gifts Burgundy is giving our children, including my own, for whom Burgundy has been absolutely formative in important and positive ways.
Therefore, because I believe in the idea of Burgundy and the learning community that is us, I don’t hesitate, along with Tee, to commit to an annual giving contribution each year — because we give to the causes that matter, and Burgundy is certainly one of them. To those of you who have joined us with your own participation in Annual Giving, we salute and thank you! Annual giving supports everything we do, as part of our operational budget, including things like field trips, professional development, and financial aid.
Our “barnometer” (barn thermometer) sign tracking participation rates went up for display recently along the road at the carpool line, and we’re glad to have 18% participation from current parents and guardians as of November 10. We would love to get 100% participation! Regardless of the total amount raised, that, in the Burgundy spirit of family and community, would be quite a statement of our commitment to our children, our school, and learning community. Thanks for doing what you can, what makes sense for your family.
If you make a single philanthropic gift to Burgundy, Annual Giving is the gift we request as priority, because Annual Giving funds so much. (If you’re making a pledge also to Campus Renewal, we can help arrange the two pledges.) Pledge to Annual Giving now, and you can pay by June 30 for this year! Sign up for a monthly payment, as we’ve done... It’s easy. On a monthly basis our best gift feels smaller and not so scary! There are many ways to give: online, U.S. mail, via a return envelope included with parent and trustee Mike Hill’s letter (recently mailed), or as part of Giving Tuesday coming up November 28.
Thank you in advance!
