Q

What is Annual Giving?

A

Annual Giving is money raised from current parents, alumni, parents of alumni, current and former faculty and staff, corporations, foundations and friends to enhance the school's programs. These donations support all aspects of each year's operating budget.

Each gift helps ensure that Burgundy students continue to benefit from the finest educational experiences. Because all contributions go directly to support learning, your gift will touch the lives of Burgundy students each and every day.

Q

Where does Annual Giving money go?

A

Annual Giving is vital to the school's financial health. Money raised through Annual Giving goes toward the current year's operating budget. Burgundy’s uncompromising commitment to students requires attracting the best teachers, offering excellent academic and extracurricular programs, and equipping and maintaining a state-of-the-art infrastructure. Sustaining Burgundy’s unique and innovative curriculum is expensive, and tuition does not cover the full cost of educating a student.

Q

How does the Annual Giving Campaign support Burgundy's mission and educational philosophy?

A

Gifts to Burgundy directly impact our ability to support our mission and sustain our educational philosophy.

Q

How much should we give? What does Burgundy expect of us?

A

Burgundy families, faculty, and staff participate in Annual Giving to the extent that they are financially able. Donations vary throughout the Burgundy Gift Club levels.

Please remember that any contribution you make will directly impact our ability to provide an innovative, hands-on approach to education that cultivates independent thinking, promotes academic excellence, instills respect for diversity, and teaches responsibility for self, for others, and for the natural world.

Our goal is to have 100 percent current parent participation. Your gift of whatever you can afford will help us meet that goal. High levels of annual giving participation – regardless of gift amount – demonstrate support of Burgundy’s mission, a key criterion in obtaining foundation grants and consideration of support form other sources.

Q

Why does Burgundy ask for contributions in addition to tuition and fees?

A

Burgundy Farm Country Day School is a non-profit school and receives no financial support from government or religious institutions. Tuition and fees do not cover the total cost of educating each student.

Tuition income, charitable gifts, and other fundraising make up the yearly operating budget. Donations ensure the continuing excellence and distinctiveness in programming that is the hallmark of a Burgundy education.

As is the case with other independent schools, Burgundy’s fundraising efforts are designed to solicit charitable gifts in order to bridge the gap between tuition income and the actual cost of operating the school. Each year, tuition provides about 85% of the school’s overall operating budget.

Giving is vital to the growth and strength of our programs. Annual gifts have a direct impact on the school’s ability to achieve goals and reinforce the core values that characterize our unique learning environment.

Q

Why doesn't Burgundy charge enough tuition to cover all operating expenses?

A

At Burgundy, we are guided and inspired by the school’s mission. We are committed to building a dynamic learning environment, staffed by creative, dedicated, and experienced faculty. A Burgundy education is subsidized by our fundraising efforts so students from many backgrounds can attend, allowing all families to benefit from the richness of our diverse community. Approximately 85 percent of the school's income comes from tuition, while the remainder mostly comes from generous annual giving support. Last year Burgundy provided financial aid support for over fifty students.

Q

Does Burgundy have an endowment?

A

Yes. The school has three endowed funds: the Scholarship Endowment Fund, to support financial aid for qualified students, the Faculty Excellence Fund, to support continuing education and professional growth of faculty, and a newly created General Endowment Fund. Gifts may be directed to the endowment funds at any time during the year.

Burgundy's endowments are its savings accounts. A substantial, well-invested endowment means that the school is guaranteed another source of income beyond annual tuition and gifts. The creation of substantial endowed funds will advance the school's fiscal planning by providing regular income as well as the long-term stability offered by capital savings.

Q

How can I make my gift?

A

Donations may be made in cash, or by check, credit card or stock (see Ways to Give). Gifts can be made with a credit card online via our secure server. Donors may pledge at any time and pay the pledge by the end of the fiscal year. The fiscal year is from 1 July – 30 June.

Q

What are matching gifts?

A

Many corporations support their employees' charitable contributions through matching gift programs. This kind of corporate support makes a significant contribution to Burgundy as it can double or triple the size of annual giving contributions. For more information, visit Ways to Give.

Please contact your employer's human resources department for information on matching gifts to schools.

Q

A

Yes, you may choose to make your gift anonymously. When you send in your contribution, be sure to let us know that you would like to be anonymous and we will be happy to honor your request.
