In 2002, Burgundy and six other independent schools serving the Washington, DC area helped to establish the Emerging Scholars Program, now known as Emerging Scholars.
Emerging Scholars identifies motivated and underserved 4th Grade students from the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and prepares them to thrive in independent schools. Through its intensive academic, social and cultural program, and working closely with families, Emerging Scholars puts its students on a path to become effective leaders and engaged citizens in their academic careers and beyond.
Participating students take classes for 15 months in the core subject areas and learn habits that lead to success in school and life. Scholars also enjoy time reading, playing and swimming on the Burgundy campus.
Over the years, Burgundy has developed and continued a deep commitment to Emerging Scholars, generally admitting one Emerging Scholar each school year into the Middle School, and for the past two summers, hosting the program on our campus. Currently, Head of School Jeff Sindler is Vice President of the Emerging Scholars Board of Trustees.
